The President of the University welcomed the AMIDEAST staff

            As part of the university’s endeavor to establish a center for services and support for students with academic and societal needs for students with disabilities, and to promote equal access to higher education for students with disabilities; Today, Monday, June 13, 2022  Professor Dr. El-Sayed Mohamad Dadour, President of the University, welcomed the AMIDEAST team, including: Mrs. Quincy Dermody, Director of the Public Universities Grants Program, Mrs. Dina Mohsen, Deputy Director of the Governmental Universities Grants Program and responsible for the Disability Program, as well as Mr. Mohamad Zakaria, the project coordinator with AMIDEAST, that was during their visit to the university to inspect the proposals for places and halls designated for the establishment of the center to be funded by the US Agency for International Development in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The meeting was also attended by Professor Dr. Wael Farouk Al-Taibany, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs and the rapporteur, Vice-Chairman of the proposed center, as well as Professor Dr. Abd Al Nasser Anees, former Dean of the College of Education and Professor of Educational Psychology and Special Education, the proposed director of the center, and Dr. Amr Mohamad Ismail, teacher of psychology at the Faculty of Education. Today's visit comes after the Ministry of Higher Education recommended that Damietta University submit an application to participate in the governmental university scholarship program of the American-Egyptian Higher Education Initiative, which was accepted by AMIDEAST, so that Damietta University is one of the 15 Egyptian universities that will be provided with the necessary support and funding to establish that center. The visit began at the university president’s office, where He gave a simplified explanation of the university and its various faculties and addressed a number of the university’s proposals for places to establish the center, stressing the university’s support for students with disabilities in all ways to achieve the principle of inclusion and equal opportunities for students with disabilities, while Mrs. Quincy Dermody and Mrs. Dina Mohsen addressed Discussing the content and purpose of the center's establishment program, as well as discussing the most important provisions of the joint agreement to be signed in the coming period. After that, the president of the university, the team of AMIDEAST organization and the team of the proposed center went to inspect all the proposed places and the alternatives allocated for the establishment of the center, where 3 proposals were made to allocate a number of offices, rooms and halls for the establishment of the center. This was  followed by a return to the university president’s office to discuss and determine the most appropriate place to establish the center, which is to be dedicated to serving university students with disabilities or who have any learning disability, and then rehabilitate them in order to promote equal access to higher education. It is worth noting that the center aims to achieve the university’s mission in providing an academic service and distinguished training to all students without discrimination, in addition to the fact that the infrastructure in the university buildings has been designed to suit people with disabilities, and these combined efforts are combined to prepare and integrate students or graduates with disabilities during their university studies To achieve competition in the labor market. The second phase of the center will include care for people with disabilities in the outside community surrounding the university.
