The university president holds an expanded meeting to discuss the conditions of the supporting body

            Professor Dr. Hemdan Rabie Al-Metwaly, President of the University, held an expanded meeting today, Tuesday, March 4, 2025, with the university’s teaching assistants and assistant professors who have exceeded the specified period for discussing their scientific theses, as part of the university’s keenness to follow up on the status of researchers and support their academic career. The meeting was held at the University Faculty Club, in the presence of Professor Dr. Mohamed Abdel Hamid Shehab, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, and Professor Dr. Abdel Hamid Khedr, former Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development. Professor Dr. Samir El Gamal, Dean of the Faculty of Law and Legal Advisor to the University President, in addition to the deans of the faculties and their deputies, which include teaching assistants and assistant lecturers who have exceeded the time limits set for discussing the scientific thesis. During the meeting, the university president discussed the situation of each teaching assistant and assistant lecturer individually, reviewing the challenges they face in completing their master’s or doctoral theses, which include research difficulties, job commitments, or personal reasons. He also listened to the attendees’ suggestions on mechanisms to support researchers. Stressing that the university will adopt flexible solutions and extend the deadline in a thoughtful manner based on the reports of their supervisors, within the framework of the governing legal rules, to ensure that their academic career is not affected. Professor Dr.Hemdan Rabie addressed the attendees, saying: “We are aware of the challenges you face, whether related to academic or administrative aspects, and we are working to overcome them through a package of exceptional measures, including extending the deadline in a thoughtful manner, providing additional research resources, and temporarily alleviating administrative burdens. Our goal is not only to complete theses, but to ensure their quality as projects that contribute to the development of our society.” He added: “The university is not just academic buildings, but a house of expertise and support, and we will continue to invest in our young cadres, because you are the pillar of the nation’s scientific future.” For his part, Professor Dr. Samir El Gamal, Dean of the Faculty of Law and Legal Advisor, provided a brief explanation of the regulatory and legal controls that allow for extending the thesis preparation periods, pointing out that university regulations allow flexibility in cases of force majeure, with the necessity of submitting detailed reports justifying the reasons for the delay. He stressed that “the university is keen to balance researchers’ academic obligations and their job rights.” The university president concluded his speech by emphasizing the need to hold periodic meetings with the university’s support staff and respond immediately to any urgent challenges. He thanked the deans of the colleges, their deputies, and the supervisors of researchers’ scientific theses for their support and dedication to developing and advancing scientific research. This meeting comes within the framework of a series of meetings launched recently by the university president to enhance direct dialogue with university members, including faculty members, assistant staff, and administrators, in a step that enhances transparency and confirms the university’s leadership in supporting scientific research and improving the quality of higher education.
