Today, July 8, 2024, Professor Dr. Hemdan Rabie Al-Metwally, President of the University, concluded the workshop “Climate Change is a Reality We Must Prepare for and Deal With,” which was held at the university over two days.
It is worth noting that the workshop was funded within the projects of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP-27), which was held in Sharm El-Sheikh in 2022, according to which the university obtained the research project “Sustainable development of the coastal region between Ras El-Bar and the port of Damietta in response to sea level rise and climate changes,” with the support of From the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology. The two-day workshop came up with several recommendations:
Linking academic research with executive agencies concerned with coastal protection.
Organizing field visits to the business sites of the Coastal Protection Department between Port Said and Damietta to transfer expertise and provide training opportunities for students.
Conduct more workshops and conferences periodically to identify problems and ways to solve them.
Establishing a marine and environmental observatory at Damietta University that supports the university’s research capabilities and monitors environmental changes, earthquakes, and sea surface movement.
Recommending the establishment of an early warning system among the Mediterranean Basin countries to warn against risks.
Support and maintain beach protection projects off the coast of Ras El Bar and Damietta Port.
During his speech, Professor Dr. Hemdan Rabie Al-Metwally, President of the University, thanked all the participants in the workshop that bore fruit, including experts, faculty members at the university, concerned authorities, and organizers. The University President stressed the university’s support for scientific research and supplying research centers with the latest equipment in various specializations to advance it to achieve local and international leadership, as scientific research represents the basis for confronting the challenges of the future and providing solutions to them, which is what the Egyptian state pays great attention.
