The Faculty of Engineering in Damietta competes with the first electric car in the Ever Egypt competition

                       Within the framework of Damietta University’s participation in the fifth season of the “Electric Car Rally 2024” competition, for which Professor Dr. Mohamad Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, announced the opening of applications for the fifth season on January 17, 2024, Professor Dr. Hemdan Rabie Al-Metwally received the University President today 8 August 2024 Students of the DU racing team, which includes a number of students from the Departments of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at the College of Engineering, In preparation for participating in the “2024 Electric Car Rally” competition, which is organized by the Academy of Scientific Research in cooperation with Ain Shams University, after completing all the work of designing and manufacturing an electric car at the university, and before transporting it to Ain Shams University, where the final testing areas qualify the car to participate in the actual race scheduled to be held in New Alamein City within the activities of the Alamein Festival 2024. This came in the presence of Professor Dr. Mohamad Abd Al Hamed Shehab, Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Research, Professor Dr. Hamdy Al-Ghandour, Dean of the College of Engineering, and Professor Dr. Mohamad Ghasoub, Vice President of the College of Engineering for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs. Meanwhile, the DU racing team at the university has completed the manufacturing and assembly of its electric car under the supervision of Dr. Mahmoud Abd Al Hady, a teacher in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the College of Engineering, and is preparing to participate in it in the “Electric Car Rally 2024 EVER Egypt” race among 24 universities participating in the competition. It is worth noting that the “Electric Car Rally 2024 EVER Egypt” competition, supported by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the final activities of which will be held in the city of New El Alamein on the twelfth and thirteenth of August, under the supervision of the Faculty of Engineering and the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Ain Shams University. The "Electric Car Rally" initiative aims to prepare Egyptian cadres capable of manufacturing a locally made Egyptian passenger car, by creating an encouraging environment to support the design and manufacture of cars, and providing technical support to the teams participating in the competition. “The EVER Egypt Electric Car Rally competition this year features three tracks: the dynamic track, the conceptual track, and the open independent track. As the dynamic and conceptual tracks, technical prowess takes center stage with new regulations of aesthetics and enhanced integration in addition to interior design, and modernization is the focus.” Also, this season is paying attention to details, by presenting an information panel about the car, such as speed, charging, and range in the self-driving path, as well as including detailed cost tables, materials details, and manufacturing documents. The DU Racing Team has undergone many tests and qualifications regarding the design and actual manufacturing phase of a fully electric car of its own design. This design has been tested and discussed by senior professors specialized in this field, and all its details and possibility of implementation have been examined. The team has proven its ability to excel and innovate. Accordingly, the Damietta University team was selected among the top 5 new participating teams at the level of Egyptian universities. For his part, the university president provided support and encouragement to the DU racing team representing Damietta University, wishing them victory in the final qualifiers of the competition. The University President praised the innovation of the Faculty of Engineering team in manufacturing the electric car, stressing the university’s support for all means of innovation, pointing to the interest that the Egyptian state attaches to the local automobile industry, especially electric ones in light of the shift that the world has witnessed towards a green economy to encourage the production of electric cars and stimulate demand for them.
