Professor Dr. Hemdan Rabie Al-Metwally, President of the University, inaugurated this morning, July 7, 2024, the workshop “Climate Change is a Reality that We Must Prepare for and Deal With,” which was held at the University over two days, starting today, Sunday, until Monday, July 8, 2024, as part of the activities of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP). - 27), which was held in Sharm El-Sheikh in 2022, according to which the university obtained the research project “Sustainable development of the coastal region between Ras El-Bar and the port of Damietta in response to sea level rise and climate changes,” with support from the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology. This came in the presence of Professor Dr. Mamdouh Nematullah, the former acting president of the university, Professor Dr. Abd Al Hamid Khedr, former vice president of the university for community service and environmental development, Professor Dr. Wael Farouk Al-Taybany, former vice president of the university for education and student affairs, and Professor Dr. Mohammad Abu Dobara, dean of the College of Science. And Professor Dr. Hisham Mustafa Al-Asmar, Professor of Geology at the College of Science and the main researcher in the project and the expert Professor Dr. Hartmut Heinrich, Professor at the University of Hamburg and international expert on climate affairs, Professor Dr. Mohamad Abd Al Rahman Hemdan, Professor of Fourth Time Geology at Cairo University, Dr. Ahmed Moussa, Director of the Beach Research Institute Center in Alexandria, Engineer Mohamed Hassan, Vice President of the Coastal Protection Authority, a delegation from the Environmental Affairs Agency, and a number of Dear faculty members and researchers at the Universities of Damietta and Mansoura, and the participation of the Students for Egypt family and students of the Faculty of Computers and Artificial Intelligence. During his address, Professor Dr. Hemdan Rabie, President of the University, welcomed the attendees, thanking Professor Dr. Hisham Mustafa Al-Asmar, Professor of Geology at the College of Science and the principal researcher in the project, for his efforts in organizing the workshop and all the workshop coordinators from the College of Science. The university president pointed out that the impact of climate change has become a reality for the world, especially on soil and water, and requires concerted efforts to confront it. Here comes the role of scientific research to develop proactive solutions to confront these impacts. The University President affirmed Damietta University's clear keenness to raise the level of scientific research in all specializations, as the university's research laboratories were provided with the latest research equipment in the Middle East in support of all scientific specializations. On the sidelines, Professor Dr. Hemdan Rabie Al-Metwally presented of the university shield to the experts participating in the symposium activities, namely the expert Professor Dr. Hartmut Heinrich, Professor at the University of Hamburg and international expert on climate affairs, Professor Dr. Mohamad Abd Al Rahman Hemdan, Professor of Fourth Time Geology at Cairo University, Dr. Ahmed Moussa, Director of the Coastal Research Institute Center in Alexandria, and Engineer Mohamed Hassan, Vice President of the Coastal Protection Authority.
