Damietta University organizes a workshop on using the Egyptian Knowledge Bank

      Within the framework of enhancing scientific research skills, Professor Dr. Hemdan Rabie Al-Metwally, President of the University, opened today, October 30, 2024, a workshop entitled “Using the Egyptian Knowledge Bank in Scientific Research,” which was organized by the University’s Digital Library Unit in cooperation with the Digital Libraries Unit of the Supreme Council of Universities and the Egyptian Knowledge Bank. This came under the supervision and presence of Professor Dr. Mohamed Abdel Hamid Shehab, Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Research, and Dr. Abeer Abbas, Director of the Digital Library at Damietta University. The workshop activities began with the playing of the national anthem of the Arab Republic of Egypt, followed by the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an in the voice of student Mohamad Taha. The workshop witnessed the presence of a large number of faculty members, supporting staff, postgraduate students and researchers at the university, and an elite group of experts in the field of libraries and scientific research lectured, including Dr. Hassan Ashry, representing the Digital Library Unit of the Supreme Council of Universities (SCU), and Mr. Walid Ali, representing the Bank. Egyptian Knowledge (EKB). It is noteworthy that the Egyptian Knowledge Bank is one of the most important platforms that provides free access to a wide range of scientific and academic resources, and the Egyptian Knowledge Bank initiative aims to enhance the research culture and facilitate access to the necessary information to support the academic process in Egypt. Professor Dr. Mohamed Abdel Hamid Shehab, Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Research, emphasized in his speech that knowledge is the basis of innovation and creativity, as it helps individuals obtain the necessary information, indicating that the progress of nations is measured by the amount of their spending on scientific research and development, which is what he stated. The Egyptian state has paid great attention since President Abd Al Fattah El-Sisi launched the Egyptian Knowledge Bank initiative in 2016. Dr. Shehab called on researchers to exploit the resources of the Egyptian Knowledge Bank and focus on value-added research that addresses societal problems, pointing out the importance of the private sector playing its role in supporting scientific research and contributing to solving industrial challenges. Professor Dr. Hamdan Rabie Al-Metwally, President of the University, appreciated the role of the Egyptian Knowledge Bank, which is considered an essential tool for enhancing scientific research in Egypt, by providing various sources of knowledge and providing support to researchers in a way that contributes to creating a fruitful research environment, which in turn leads to improving the quality of education and scientific research. The university president stressed that Damietta University pays great attention to scientific research and researchers, pointing out the necessity of choosing research topics that serve society and move the Egyptian state towards achieving its goals of sustainable development. During the workshop, Professor Walid Ali reviewed how to register and search in the Knowledge Bank, and training in using the Egyptian Knowledge Bank and the resources available on the website from various publishers, in addition to the browsing system and the unified search engine, and downloading scientific books from the platforms available in the Knowledge Bank. While Mr. Hassan Ashry discussed digital library services; Among them: checking fake journals, examining citations and impact factors, evaluating scientific journals, searching the digital repository of dissertations in Egyptian universities, and preparing impact factor reports for applicants for promotions and state awards.
