The President of the University inaugurates the Center of Research Excellence in Advanced Agricultural Sciences

             Today, Tuesday, July 25, 2023, Professor Dr. El-Sayed Mohamad Dadour, President of the University, inaugurated the second phase of the Center for Research Excellence in Advanced Agricultural Sciences. “The Center for Excellence in Research of Advanced Agricultural Sciences” CERAAS “affiliated to the Faculty of Agriculture located in the wing of research centers in the building of the general administration of the university, and he was welcomed by Professor Dr. Metwally Mustafa Selim, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, and Dr. Khaled Abd Al Fattah, Director of the Center. After cutting the opening ribbon, the President of the University expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to everyone who contributed to the completion of this unique scientific center.

The university president also confirmed that the university is an institution whose role is not limited to education only, but extends to scientific research and community service. The university must provide technological and scientific solutions and innovations to the problems of society, as the university puts on its list of priorities support for activating the role of applied scientific research in the university, providing training for distinguished cadres and supporting innovative ideas in implementation of the state's policy. The second phase of the center includes several laboratories belonging to the center's units, namely:

1-Water Sustainability & Agricultural Systems Ressearch Lab.

2-Food and Feed Quality & Analysis Lab.

3-Agricultural Biotechnology Research Lab.

4-Molecular Biology  Research Lab.

5-Spectroscopy Lab.

6-Central Lab.

The second phase of the center aims to:

1 -Examination and diagnosis of animal and plant tissues.

2- Examination of synthetic nanomaterials used in the industries of plant and animal nutrients, pesticides and water treatment.

3 -Detection of viral infections such as the Corona virus, examination and diagnosis of cancerous cells and tumors, and examination of medical drug compounds and emulsions.

4 -Detection of pesticide residues in food, feed and water.

5- Estimation and identification of active compounds in plant extracts

6 -Detection of the degree of purity of medicines and medical drugs in food and milk.

7-Separation and quantification of amino acids, proteins, nucleic acids, drugs, pesticides, antibiotics and steroids.

8 -Estimation of aflatoxins, which are among the most dangerous types of toxins in food, fodder, and imported foodstuffs.

9 -Measuring the concentration of heavy metals in water, liquid waste, food, fodder, petroleum ores and oils.

10 -Dairy quality control to analyze milk to up to six standards and check for adulteration in minutes.

11- Determination of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, sulfur and oxygen in various medicines, petrochemicals, energy, environment, agriculture, food and fodder.

12- Analysis of hormones and measurement of immune responses.

13 -Detection of viruses in general, genetic fingerprinting, participation in genetic engineering research, and detection of bacterial isolates.

In addition to the research objectives of the center, civil society can benefit from it, especially the following institutions:

-The National Food Safety Authority

 - Damietta port.

- Ministries of Health, Agriculture, Supply and Environment.

 - Companies operating in the agricultural production sector, food industries and dairy products.

At the end of the university president's tour of the center, the Dean of the College of Agriculture, Professor Dr. El-Metwally Selim, and the associates of the College of Agriculture presented a memorial shield to the university president.

Today, the President of the University inaugurated the Geophysics Software Laboratory at the Faculty of Science, where he was received by Professor Dr. Mohammad Ismail Abu Dobara, Dean of the Faculty of Science, and Professor Dr. Mohammad Omran, Director of the Quality Assurance Center at the University, and Professor Dr. Hatem Abd Al Moneim Abu Al-Khair, Executive Director of the Laboratory, the Vice Deans of the Faculty and a number of Faculty members, and this laboratory was established and equipped in cooperation between Damietta University and the Unit of Excellence in Project Management at the Ministry of Higher Education. At the end of the visit, Professor Dr. Mohammad Abu Dobara, Dean of the Faculty, presented a memorial shield to the President of the University. The openings were attended by Professor Dr. Abd Al Hamid Khedr, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Professor Dr. Hemdan Rabie, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Professor Dr. Wael Al-Taybany, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, and a number of university leaders, faculty members and supporting staff.
