  The University President witnesses the launching of the Minister of Higher Education of the Seventh International Conference of the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education. Dr. Alaa Ashmawy announces the establishment of two new sectors in the National Authority for Educational Quality Assurance and Accreditation. He confirms: The seventh edition of the conference will be launched in conjunction with Africa’s celebration of 2024 as the Year of Education. Professor Dr. Hemdan Rabie Al-Metwally, President of the University, witnessed the launching of the activities of the Seventh International Conference, organized by the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education, which was opened by Professor Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, on behalf of Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, and which was held this year under the slogan “ Quality education in the age of artificial intelligence.” This came in the presence of Dr. Mohammad Al-Dweny, Undersecretary of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, representing His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Dr. Osama Al-Azhary, Minister of Endowments, Mr. Mohammad Gubran, Minister of Manpower, and Mr. Mohammad Abdel Latif, Minister of Education and Technical Education. Dr. Nadia Badrawy, President of the Arab Network for Quality Assurance in Higher Education, and Dr. Michael K. C. Milligan, CEO of the Accreditation Board (ABET) from the United States of America, Dr. Douglas Blackstock, President of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA), and Dr. Mohamed Emara, President of the Egyptian Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation for Technical Education. At the beginning of his speech, Dr. Ayman Ashour expressed his happiness to participate in the work of the Seventh International Conference of the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education, explaining that the conference comes for the seventh time in a row. To discuss many important topics related to the quality of Egyptian education at all levels, issues of internationalization of education, and the role of information and communications technology in improving education and ensuring its quality,  Praising the efforts of the Quality Assurance Authority in linking education and artificial intelligence, which is an important trend that requires reshaping the higher education system in Egypt, by focusing on technology, innovation and scientific research, in line with the requirements of the labor market and jobs of the future. The Minister explained that striving to achieve high-quality and competitive teaching and learning outcomes required modernizing work systems and curricula in many traditional specializations, and moving towards fourth-generation universities that focus on linking scientific research to the needs of society and solving its problems. Pointing to the continuous increase witnessed in the past three years in the number of computer, information, and artificial intelligence programs, as their number has now reached 96 colleges for artificial intelligence and computer science, whose paths vary between government, private, and private education, and technological universities, within the framework of more than 115 Egyptian universities. The number of students enrolled in these programs reached 110,000 male and female students, an increase of 40% over last year. During his speech, the Minister affirmed his constant endeavor to achieve global levels in the quality of education, by adopting the principle of “interdisciplinary and interdisciplinary programs” to prepare qualified graduates for the labor market, pointing to the importance of quality education in line with the standards of the Egyptian Quality Assurance and Accreditation Authority. He thanked all the employees of the Quality Assurance and Accreditation Authority for their great efforts in accrediting academic institutions and programs in Egyptian universities, as well as accrediting private higher institutes. Ashour added that, based on enhancing international accreditation for a number of academic programs in Egyptian universities, during September of this year, memorandums of understanding were signed to establish offices for three international accreditation bodies in Egypt, covering the fields of medical sciences, architecture and arts, as well as the trade and economic sector, with the aim of Qualifying relevant programs to obtain international accreditation after being approved locally. For his part, Dr. Alaa Ashmawy, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Authority for Educational Quality Assurance and Accreditation, announced the establishment of two new sectors for the authority, namely the sector for accreditation of training institutions and programs and the National Qualifications Framework, pointing out that the National Qualifications Framework began ten years ago, but its work began to be activated through the Tamm platform. Listing 800 academic qualifications in it in coordination with the relevant authorities. He explained that the conference aims to exchange different opinions, experiences, practices and experiments on the applications of artificial intelligence in the field of quality education. Which contributes to improving the effectiveness of evaluating educational and training institutions and programs and building confidence in educational outcomes at the national, regional and international levels, He pointed out that the conference coincides with Africa’s celebration of the current year 2024 as the Year of Education, and participants from all over the continent will present and discuss ways of cooperation across the continent in the field of ensuring the quality of education and accreditation, through existing initiatives to harmonize quality assurance standards (HAQAA3) and the African Qualifications Framework. (ACQF), and the establishment of the African Foundation (PAQAA) to ensure the quality of education and accreditation. Dr. Ashmawi pointed out the importance of this conference, which provides participants with opportunities to present new initiatives to facilitate movement between different educational paths, and provide mechanisms for the movement of graduates across borders at the regional and international levels. In order to raise the level of education and training under the new republic and to be consistent with Egypt’s Vision 2030, pointing out that it is a good opportunity to monitor the reality of quality in our educational institutions, envision the future, and determine the goals that we seek to achieve and the paths to be followed. He added that this conference, in turn, will help interact with international experts on new trends in education, while formulating future policy for integrating artificial intelligence into quality assurance processes, in addition to learning about best practices in the field of ensuring quality education  and communicating with specialists in ensuring the quality of education, in addition to attending practical and content-rich workshops, as well as building regional and international partnerships, introducing the new accreditation standards for pre-university and higher education, and launching the Egyptian National Qualifications Framework. The seventh edition of the conference comes this year under the patronage of the Prime Minister, with the participation of nearly 1,000 specialists representing all levels of education in Egypt, a group of international experts, and representatives of Arab and African quality assurance bodies and a number of presidents of Egyptian universities, as the National Authority for Educational Quality Assurance and Accreditation aims to bring the largest number of international organizations and experts to present their expertise to those in charge of the educational process, whether at the level of higher education or pre-university education. To bring about a qualitative shift in Egyptian education, and to strengthen international partnerships in the field of education and professional development. The conference comes based on keeping pace with modern technological developments, and the role assigned to the authority to ensure the quality of educational outcomes, enhance confidence between outcomes at the national and international levels, and contribute to achieving Egypt’s Vision 2030, as a pivotal partner in developing education in Egypt and a pioneer in ensuring its quality. It is worth noting that this year’s conference is organized in cooperation with the Accreditation Council for Engineering and Technology Education (ABET), the New England Association of Colleges and Schools (NEASC), the Initiative for Harmonization of Quality Standards in Higher Education in African Countries (HAQAA), the Arab Network for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ANQAHE), the European Organization for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA), and the European Union for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA).
