The university president meets with the team preparing the application file for creative cities

               Within the framework of Damietta University’s preparations to submit the nomination file within the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, Professor Dr. Hamdan Rabie Al-Metwally, President of the University, held a meeting today, January 15, 2025, with the file preparation team headed by Professor Dr. Mohamad Abdo Amasha, Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs. The meeting reviewed the latest developments in the preparation of the file, and discussed main pillars of what distinguishes Damietta Governorate, and the points of excellence in handicrafts and folk arts in the governorate. The UNESCO Creative Cities Network program is one of the global initiatives that promotes creativity as an essential tool for sustainable development in cities. The program includes seven categories, including handicrafts, folk art, design, cinema, culinary arts, literature, media arts, and music. Damietta Governorate is one of the most prominent cities that maintains many of these categories, which makes it qualified to be part of this global network. In this context, Damietta University is working on preparing the necessary documents in cooperation with Damietta Governorate to present an integrated file that reflects the most important heritage crafts in the governorate. The President of the University stressed the importance of effective cooperation between the university and the governorate, stressing the university’s continued commitment to supporting the local community in all fields.
